Abstract :
The debate over the date and provenance of Traditio apostolica has major consequences for research into the origin of baptismal and other creeds. This article defends the integrity of the extended form of the creed, including the christological sequence, found in the Latin version of Traditio apostolica, arguing against suggestions that the whole is interpolated or extended. It further defends the position that later, short forms, are abbreviations of longer creeds rather than relics of original short creeds.
