Document Details : Title: Zur Herausbildung von Schriftsprachen im christlichen Osten Subtitle: Einige Aspekte am Beispiel des Georgischen Author(s): DOBORDŽGINIDZE, Nino Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 121 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2008 Pages: 353-371 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.121.3.2034326 Abstract : The article deals with the processes of the linguistic development of local languages as a standard language in Eastern Christianity. Special aspects as e.g. the functional and qualitative legitimization of the Georgian language in the context of the Hellenistic culture are discussed. Another topic is the relation of Georgian as a local language to the “universal” Christian language. The old Georgian sources, namely, the commentaries and scholia connected with the translation activities of Georgian scholars in the Medieval Ages are analyzed. According to these data, on the one hand, the article discusses the idea of equality of all languages in the realm of the religious sphere; on the other hand it discusses the relation of the local language, namely, of the Georgian language, to the so-called sacred languages, especially, to the Greek language. The process of the emancipation of the Georgian language in the Medieval Ages is studied in the context of typological parallels of other, e.g. Latin and Oriental, traditions. |
