Document Details : Title: Sleepers Awake Subtitle: More Light on PSI I 65 Author(s): MACCOULL, Leslie S.B. Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 121 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2008 Pages: 1-10 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.121.1.2120500 Abstract : While this sixth-century text has hitherto been interpreted as either exegetical or mystical, the present paper proposes that it is in fact a draft of a liturgical formulation, specifically a fragment of an ordination rite for clergy of the separating Miaphysite church of Egypt. Such a cultural production would have been a matter of urgency in the political and ecclesiological circumstances obtaining in Egypt in the 530s/540s. |
