Document Details : Title: Mushe Bar Kepha and a Lost Treatise of Henana on Psalm Sunday Author(s): COAKLEY, J.F. Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 120 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2007 Pages: 301-325 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.120.3.2024678 Abstract : A collection entitled Explanations of the feasts attributed to Mushe bar Kepha contains a treatise on Palm Sunday. It is shown that this treatise drew on a lost work of Henana of Adiabene on the same subject. One section, at least, of Mushe bar Kepha’s work probably follows Henana fairly closely: this is printed with a translation. It shows a concern with the Jewish-Christian argument, and also displays the disagreement with Theodore of Mopsuestia known to be characteristic of Henana — although not the allegorical exegesis with which Henana is sometimes (wrongly) associated. |
