Document Details : Title: Le marriage, une bonne nouvelle Author(s): GUEULLETTE, Jean-Marie Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 13 Issue: 2 Date: 2007 Pages: 234-242 DOI: 10.2143/INT.13.2.2024091 Abstract : The Christian view of marriage and faithfulness can be envisioned without complexes. It holds out a great hope to men and women of today because it responds to their deep desire to construct a strong, stable relationship, to be recognized and loved, to give of themselves. Marriage, like hope, does not make much noise. It does not give rise to dramatic testimonies, and it is ceaselessly confronted with major challenges. And yet, in the eyes of faith, it is a sign, a sacrament of God’s faithfulness. How to say all of this today? How can one speak of marriage without falling into an idealism which no one believes and which cannot hold its own on the defensive? The author’s understanding of marriage is not one that has to be defended against attacks, it is an echo of the Good News: God wants happiness for his children. |
