Document Details : Title: Particularity and Religious Commitment Subtitle: Reflections on Bernard McGinn's Author(s): MERRIGAN, Terence Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 31 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2006 Pages: 42-51 DOI: 10.2143/LS.31.1.2019378 Abstract : In his analysis of the thought of the Flemish mystic, Jan van Ruusbroec, Bernard McGinn highlights four dimensions that may be very useful in illuminating a number of issues in the contemporary theology of religions. The issues under consideration include the lessons to be learned from the mystics, the nature of the truth-claims of particular religious traditions, the notion of God’s ineffability, and the character of religious praxis. Taking its lead from McGinn’s analysis of Ruusbroec’s thought, this article examines these themes as they are developed within the pluralist theology of religions. |
