Document Details : Title: The Eponymous Archons of Athens from 300/299 to 286/5 Author(s): OSBORNE, M.J. Journal: Ancient Society Volume: 36 Date: 2006 Pages: 69-80 DOI: 10.2143/AS.36.0.2017829 Abstract : This paper seeks to clarify the political situation and the list of eponymous archons of Athens for the period 300/299–286/5. The recent suggestion that the archon Nikias served only for the latter portion of 296/5 is rejected; the archons Aristion, hitherto attributed to the 230s, and [A]mbrosios, newly discovered, are assigned to this period; and Telokles and Aristonymos, who have been regularly dated in the triennium 291/0–289/8, are downdated to 280/79 and 277/6 respectively. |
