Making of a Collection and Catalogue In the second half of the nineteenth century, Théodore de Montpellier (1807-1879), bishop of Liège, ordered the solemn conducting of an inventory of the reliquary contents in his diocese. As a result, many early textiles in which the relics were wrapped came to light. Canon Joseph Lupus (1810-1888) asked Jules Helbig to reproduce the discovered fabrics. This article presents the catalogue of the remains of a collection consisting of approximately one hundred gouaches. |
