Document Details : Title: The Uniformity of Australian English Author(s): HAMMARSTRÖM, Göran Journal: Orbis Volume: 35 Date: 1988-1990 Pages: 208-210 DOI: 10.2143/ORB.35.0.2012839 Abstract : J.W. Ney published in Orbis 31, 1982 [1985] a paper entitled 'Australian English Dialect Studies'. It is generally thought that Australian English shows great uniformity or that there are no dialects in Australia. Experts on Australian English such as Mitchell, Delbridge and Bernard, who have held these kinds of view are challenged by Ney, who believes that 'the statement on the uniformity of the Australian dialect is absurd'. |
