These aspects will refer not only to diachronic generative phonology, but also to synchronic phonology, since some synchronic aspects are based on historical data, and, on the other hand, some diachronic explanations are the result of synchronic solutions adopted by different directions of generative phonology. As somme of the recent developments of generative phonology are based on the integration if findings already extant in non-generative linguistic approaches, reference to these approaches will also be made. |
