Document Details : Title: Archaism and Evolution in Berber Author(s): GALAND, Lionel Journal: Orbis Volume: 36 Date: 1991-1993 Pages: 59-66 DOI: 10.2143/ORB.36.0.2012799 Abstract : The notion of archaism, that is, the idea that a given language or phenomenon has been preserved in almost the same state as “before" (even if it is not always possible to tell when the period vaguely referred to as “before" took place) is rather usual in Berber studies. For instance, it is not uncommon to hear that Twareg is “archaic", or “purer" than the other Berber languages, or that Kabyle is more “evolutive" (évoluĂ©), or that the Berber dialects of Libya are “worn out" (usés), and so on. |
