Document Details : Title: Nieuwe biographica over Willem de Biechtvader Author(s): VAN ANROOIJ, Wim Journal: Ons Geestelijk Erf Volume: 69 Issue: 1 Date: maart 1995 Pages: 47-52 DOI: 10.2143/OGE.69.1.2003434 Abstract : Geert Warnar’s recent hypothesis that the Nuttelijc boec(a collection of sermons) was written at the court of the Counts of Holland (The Hague) around 1400 by William the Confessor [Willem de Biechtvader], still seems very attractive, despite some criticism. William was an instructor at the Carmelite Convent of Haarlem and confessor to Duke Albert of Bavaria († 1404) and his family. In some archival documents William is called ‘William of Rotterdam’. After the death of Duke Albert he lived in a house in Delft, between The Hague and Rotterdam. His name is also found in connection with the Carmelite Convents of Schoonhoven and Mechelen. |
