Abstract :
In the sixth (2004) volume of this journal, Monika Hasitzka and Helmut Satzinger published a series of short Coptic texts from the Istituto di Papirologia of the Università degli Studi di Milano1. Such collections are always interesting and the editors are to be thanked for making these often forbidding texts known to the scholarly world. Among the seventeen pieces published is one magical text, however, a Sahidic amulet, which might have profited from a somewhat more careful treatment. Thus, this “Schutzamulett” could have been described more precisely as an amulet against illness. The editors also failed to identify the ailments that it is supposed to avert. In what follows, I will re-publish the strictly textual passages of the amulet after the mediocre photo of the editio princeps and add a new translation plus some summary comments.
