By any standards, this is a difficult question. The majority view would have us believe that it was strong personalities, especially those of Augustine and Jerome, who made the difference. In the pages that follow, I will demonstrate that, at best, this is a questionable and assumption-filled position. I will also argue that the writings of Pelagius have an important contribution to make with respect to the formulation of a satisfactory answer. |
