Abstract :

The difference between G. Siewerth and E. Przywara in regard to analogy can be summed up in terms of the metaphysical and theological function that they attribute to it. For Siewerth the analogia entisis a victory over Hegelian dialectic, in which uni-ficatory Thought imposes its law on “torn” being, and a restoration of the exemplarity of identical Being in the identifying work of thought. For Przywara the analogiaentis is the “true” dialectic which binds rhythmically the theological relationship of Creator to creature and the metaphysical relationship of essence to existence. Whereas Przywara introduces a dialogue between Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, Siewerth seeks, in particular by means of an ontology of language, to bridge their century-old differences.
