Title: The Canaanite Syllabary
Author(s): COLLESS, Brian E.
Journal: Ancient Near Eastern Studies
Volume: 35 Date: 1998
The writing system previously called 'Byblos syllabic characters' and 'the Gublaic syllabary' is better to be called 'the Canaanite Syllabary'. This writing system is closely related to the Canaanite proto-alphabetic that was found not only in Canaan, but also in Sinai and Egypt. Please note that this article is part of a series (Abr-Nahrain 30-34). The main issue here will be a response to the decipherment of Giovanni Garbini (Rivista di studi fenici 16, 1988, 129-131).
