This opus magnum casts the other books of Bar Hebraeus (1225/261286 AD), in which he gives introductory remarks on the same themes (like MƏnāraṯ quḏšē, Candelabrum, ed. Ján Bakos or KƏṯāḇā ḏa-sƏwāḏ sōfijā, ed. Herman F. Janssens or its shorter version KƏṯāḇā ḏzalgē), into the shade. As it describes nearly all the sciences of his time, it was widely used by Syriac scholars, even in the 19th century. The following description is based on eight manuscripts of the Butyrum viz. |
