Document Details : Title: Theology out of Hell Subtitle: Christian Theme in Dostoevsky's The Devils Author(s): VAN DEN BERCKEN, Wil Journal: Journal of Eastern Christian Studies Volume: 55 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2003 Pages: 29-46 DOI: 10.2143/JECS.55.1.504408 Abstract : Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Devils is not a novel with predominantly religious themes. However, it does have an indirect religious theme, namely the nonexistence of God and its ethical consequences for human beings. This theme is present as a metaphysical background to the thoughts and actions of the main characters. Moreover, the novel acquires an explicitly religious accent in two chapters that deal with fundamental Christian themes. |
