Abstract :

The funerary stela Manchester Museum 2965, attributed to the Saite period and discovered in the necropolis of Abydos, bears a long inscription associating a ḥtp-di-nsw formula and an appeal to the priests where the owner demonstrates his merits in a sort of autobiography. In this text, we find many borrowings from older periods, the stela appearing as a good testimony about the influence of the archaizing tendency on the private monuments. Furthermore, the passage evoking the owner’s behaviour contains allusions to his job of priest which are connected with the instructions to priesthood known by the inscriptions of the Ptolemaic temples.
