Document Details : Title: I lerins Araratay Subtitle: L'Ararat dall'Ellenismo alla Tarda Antichità Author(s): TRAINA, Giusto Journal: Revue des Études Arméniennes Volume: 41 Date: 2022 Pages: 87-96 DOI: 10.2143/REA.41.0.3291880 Abstract : Present-day identification of the 'mountains of Ararat' of Gen 8:4 with the Armenian Masis is not ancient. As early as the third century BCE, the landing point of Noah’s Ark was located south of the lake Van, in Gordyene. The pilgrims who visited the region could eventually take relics of the Ark, namely pieces of wood and samples of tar that were used for therapeutic purposes. This article discusses the main evidence of the ancient locations. |
