Il s’agit du témoignage le plus ancien d’une réflexion élaborée sur le sujet en Chine. L’article, outre une traduction complète et annotée du texte, en propose une analyse, replacée dans le contexte général des idées de l’auteur sur l’écriture de l’histoire et notamment celle de la question du récit authentique (shilu). Elle permet de comprendre quels sont, selon Liu Zhiji, les critères qui caractérisent une autobiographie digne de ce nom. In the Generalities on Historiography (Shitong), written by the Tang scholar Liu Zhiji (661-721), one chapter, entitled 'Xuzhuan', is entirely devoted to autobiographies. It is the oldest known Chinese testimony of an elaborate thought on that matter. In addition to providing a complete and annotated translation of the text, this article situates it within the general context of the author’s ideas on the writing of history, with a special attention to the question of the 'veritable records' (shilu). It further sheds light on what were, according to Liu Zhiji, the criteria that characterized an autobiography worthy of the name. |
