Title: The Akathist Hymn in a Syriac Translation
Author(s): BROCK, Sebastian P.
Journal: Le Muséon
Volume: 135 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2022
A Syriac translation of the famous Humnos Akathistos was made as part of the enormous undertaking to translate the Greek liturgical texts required when the Rum Orthodox (Melkite) Patriarchate of Antioch adopted the Constantinopolitan rite during the Byzantine re-occupation of northern Syria (969-1084). The Syriac text is edited here from four manuscripts in St Catherine’s Monastery, Sinai, accompanied by an English translation and annotation.
