Abstract :
The evidence concerning the late-Hellenistic biographer Amphikrates of Athens suggests that inclusion of military men in On Famous Men literature was not an abrupt invention of Cornelius Nepos, but should rather be regarded as a broader late-Hellenistic phenomenon.
