Abstract :
The final report of the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in 2017 commented on the lack of responsibility, transparency, and accountability within the Catholic Church’s practices and law. The Commissioners made twenty-one recommendations; the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference accepted all of them, except one concerning the seal of confession. The recommendations concerning universal law were forwarded to the Holy See, which responded on 26 February 2020. The author explains the origins of the recommendations and comments on the responses of the Holy See to each recommendation.
