It documents the works and accomplishments of the 'cercle de Fourvière', a uniquely gifted group of thinkers. The article situates Lyons-Fourvière at the nucleus of the ressourcement movement and exhibits pertinent aspects of Church history and ecclesiology from the oeuvre of some of the leading Fourvière intellectuals, notably Henri de Lubac and Jean Daniélou, both of whom contributed to a highly original, inspirational vision for an innovative patristics series that influenced Vatican II. The article also provides an account of de Lubac’s influential Théologie book series and seeks to demonstrate how it shaped theological debate and ecclesial renewal in the pivotal period under review. Lastly, it accentuates the contribution of Fourvière to the battle against the forces of darkness in the historically tragic period 1940-1944 in France. |
