Document Details : Title: A Statement on the Sexual Abuse Crisis in the Church in Support of Pope Francis Author(s): INTERNATIONAL BIOETHICS GROUP Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 26 Issue: 2 Date: 2020 Pages: 248-258 DOI: 10.2143/INT.26.2.3289254 Abstract : Each year, the International Bioethics Group (IBG) meets to discuss bioethical issues from the broader perspective of the Catholic philosophical and theological tradition. Last year (2019), the group decided to reflect on the crimes of sexual abuse of minors, i.e., children and adolescents, and other vulnerable people in the Church, a topic of much discussion over the past years. While this issue of our journal is dedicated to sexual abuse in families, the topic of sexual abuse in the Church family has many similarities, and is indeed a pressing issue. We therefore offer this statement from the IBG, which was also presented to Pope Francis, as a contribution to the discussion and as a way of broadening the scope of discussion of abuse in families. We present it here in the original English and in Spanish translation, as it was to presented to the pope. |
