Document Details : Title: 'This is for me nota' Subtitle: The Annotator of The Chastising of God's Children in Yale, Beinecke Library, MS Osborn fa46 Author(s): CRÉ, Marleen Journal: Ons Geestelijk Erf Volume: 88 Issue: 2-4 Date: 2017 Pages: 209-232 DOI: 10.2143/OGE.88.2.3256931 Abstract : In this paper the non-scribal annotations to The Chastising of God’s Children in Yale, Beinecke Library, MS Osborne fa46 (Manuscript He) are investigated. As this manuscript is related to three other Chastising manuscripts with a connection to the charterhouses of London and Sheen (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Rawlinson C57 (R); Cambridge, Trinity Colledge, MS B.14.19 (T) and Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Bodley 505 (B)), it is not unlikely that the annotator of manuscript He was a Carthusian. The annotations in manuscript He are mostly thematic, and show that the annotator read The Chastising as a new single and unified text. In addition, his personal annotations signal that he used the text in his his own spiritual practice, and shows his interest in the contemplative aspects of the text. |
