Abstract :
Spiritual formation is a term that is commonly used within ecclesiastical and academic settings. Upon examination of how the term is defined by diverse perspectives, there is evidence that the definitions are not in agreement. Though a foundational understanding of holiness and/or growth is present in many, the mechanisms of spiritual formation within the varied definitions are incongruent. This article will draw from the apostle Paul’s letter of 1 Thessalonians in an endeavor to define the term. Despite dissimilar perspectives, most agree that Paul can be an agreeable starting point.
