Journal: Revue Biblique Volume: 116 Issue: 4 Date: 2009 Pages: 557-571 DOI: 10.2143/RBI.116.4.3206424 Abstract : The first two sections of this article argue that the first half of 1Cor 7:14c should be translated as a complementary, if contradictory, pair of factual affirmations: 'Since therefore your children are unclean, but now are holy'. The final section then shows how such a statement coheres completely with Paul’s paradoxical language elsewhere about the labile social body of 'the new creation' that was the early Christian church 'in Christ'. Les deux premières parties de l’article soutiennent que la première moitié de 1 Cor 7,14c devrait être traduite comme une paire d’affirmations factuelles complémentaires, si ce n’est contradictoires: «Puisqu’en conséquence vos enfants sont impurs, alors que maintenant ils sont saints». La dernière partie montre combien une telle option est tout à fait cohérente avec le langage paradoxal de Paul ailleurs, à propos du corps social instable de la «nouvelle création» qu’était l’église primitive, «en Christ». |
