Document Details : Title: The Pre-Herodian Temple Subtitle: Reassessing the House of the Laver and the House of Utensils in the Temple Scroll Author(s): PATRICH, Joseph Journal: Revue Biblique Volume: 116 Issue: 4 Date: 2009 Pages: 505-526 DOI: 10.2143/RBI.116.4.3206422 Abstract : A new reading and interpretation of Cols. 31:10-33:13 of the Temple Scroll, describing the House of the Laver and the House of the Utensils, suggest that the House of the Laver should be shifted 28 cubits west relative to the location proposed by Yadin. This brings the Laver above the western end of Cistern 5 – a geological fissure to be identified with the 'pit (מחילה) which extended downward into the land', mentioned in the Temple Scroll, Col. 32:12-14. Both Houses were real structures of the pre-Herodian Temple, and a better understanding of the architectural evolution of the Temple is permitted. Une nouvelle lecture et interprétation des cols 31,10-33,13 du Rouleau du Temple, décrivant les bâtiments du Bassin et celui des Ustensiles, suggère que, relativement à la position qu’en propose Yadin, le bâtiment du Bassin devrait être déplacée de 28 coudées vers l’ouest. Cela place le Bassin au-dessus de l’extrémité ouest de la Citerne no 5 – une fissure géologique qu’on peut identifier avec «le puits (מחילה) qui s’enfonce dans la terre», du Rouleau du Temple, col. 32,12-14. Les deux structures étaient de réelles constructions du Temple pré-hérodien, et ainsi nous arrivons à une meilleure compréhension de l’évolution architecturale du Temple. |
