Pourtant, les motivations et allégeances de cet insatiable voyageur sont présentées comme pro-Fatimides, dynastie qui révolutionne le paysage politique de l’époque. Souvent, il est tout simplement traité d’«espion fatimide». Le présent article vise à démontrer que la prétendue allégeance fatimide d’Ibn Ḥawqal est née d’une mauvaise lecture des manuscrits étudiés de son œuvre et d’une marginalisation d’autres manuscrits cruciaux. À travers une analyse comparée des textes des manuscrits d’Ibn Ḥawqal, grâce notamment à la découverte d’un manuscrit comportant la première version de l’ouvrage, il est en effet possible de révéler une méticuleuse entreprise de rectification idéologique du texte d’Ibn Ḥawqal exécutée par un thuriféraire du pouvoir fatimide. The text of Ibn Ḥawqal is nothing less than the most important source of information about the Arab-Muslim world of the 10th century. However, the motives and allegiances of this insatiable traveler are presented as pro-Fatimids, the most famous and influential dynasty of the time. Often, he is simply seen as a Fatimid spy. This article wants to prove that the Fatimid allegiance so-called of Ibn Ḥawqal was born from a poor reading of the manuscripts available of his work and a marginalization of other crucial manuscripts. Through a comparative analysis of the texts of the manuscripts of the Ibn Ḥawqal, through the discovery of a manuscript comprising the first version of the book, it is indeed possible to reveal a meticulous ideological rectification of the Ibn Ḥawqal’s text by a thurifer of Fatimid power. |
