Journal: Turcica Volume: 47 Date: 2016 Pages: 73-95 DOI: 10.2143/TURC.47.0.3164942 Abstract : While one can easily recognize the foundations of the so-called Küçük Cami (or Small Mosque) of Athens, in the south-eastern part of the Roman Agora, this building is apparently not to be found in the historical-archaeological map of the town as well as in the published studies of its Ottoman monuments. This paper aims at clarifying, as far as possible, the mosque’s history and architecture by an analysis of its surviving traces and of the related data in the travelers’ works. Alors qu’on peut aisément reconnaître, dans la partie sud-est de l’Agora romaine d’Athènes, la mosquée connue sous le nom de Küçük Cami (Petite Mosquée), celle-ci semble introuvable dans la carte historico-archéologique de la ville, de même que dans les études publiées à ce jour sur ses monuments ottomans. Le présent article tente d’éclairer, dans la mesure du possible, l’histoire et l’architecture de cette mosquée en analysant les restes visibles du bâtiment et les informations fournies par les récits de voyage. |
