Document Details : Title: Melodic Tones in Karanga Shona Author(s): ODDEN, David Journal: Africana Linguistica Volume: 20 Date: 2014 Pages: 331-348 DOI: 10.2143/AL.20.0.3062076 Abstract : The melodic system of Karanga Shona can largely be reduced to the addition of a H tone positioned at the left or right edge of the stem, depending on lexical tone. There is significant complexity in the interaction between the melodic H and rightward spreading, which gives rise to somewhat different surface patterns according to inflectional category. The choice of melodic pattern is almost entirely predictable from general morphosyntactic properties of the word. |
