This letter contributes to our still limited knowledge of Renaissance Greek epistolography and to the biography of Scaliger. In particular, the letter sheds light on Scaliger’s reception of Lucian, on his relations with the French humanist Marc-Antoine Muret, and on an obscure allegation of homosexuality and pederasty levelled at Muret. To facilitate comprehension, an English translation of the Greek letter has been added. |
