Abstract :
I agree with Vanheeswijck’s thesis that religion should not be approached from a neutral, external perspective and that the point of religion can only be grasped from within religious experiences and practices. But going against Vanheeswijck and making use of William James’ distinction between crass and refined supernaturalism, I argue that the internalist approach leaves no room for religious beliefs.
