Abstract :
In this article, some well-known passages in the Reis van Sint Brandaan and Karel ende Elegast, two of the most famous texts in medieval Dutch literature, will be critically discussed and re-interpreted. In spite of the communis opinio about these passages, some of the philological questions have not yet been answered in a satisfactory way. This article offers new interpretations as well as a plea for a 'microphilology'.
