Document Details : Title: Transformaties van geloof Author(s): VAN HERCK, Walter Journal: Tijdschrift voor Filosofie Volume: 74 Issue: 1 Date: 2012 Pages: 45-64 DOI: 10.2143/TVF.74.1.2152712 Abstract : In an approach which is sympathetic to Wilfred Cantwell Smith’s monographs on belief and faith, a description in three phases is offered of the conceptual transformations of belief. Starting from belief as faith the notion evolves to belief as opinion and belief as presupposition. Exemplifications of this are found in Thomas Aquinas, Hume and Kant. The major consequence of this transformation is the view that an opinion about God’s existence is foundational for a richer form of belief. The author argues to the contrary. |
