Often it seems that Christians participating in social actions have to choose between cultural relevance and faithfulness to their tradition. Basing himself Paul Ricoeur’s work on the productive imagination in language and human action, and his work on parables, the author argues that the Bible and other traditional texts may be read parabolically and intertextually with the cultural (con)text. The author suggest that, when Christians creatively appropriate the biblical text through the process of embedding it into their life-narrative, their practice can have a meaningful impact on the society without renouncing the rich resources of the Christian tradition. |
