Document Details : Title: Just Peacemaking in Christian Marriage Author(s): HANLON RUBIO, Julie Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 17 Issue: 2 Date: 2011 Pages: 138-151 DOI: 10.2143/INT.17.2.2141929 Abstract : The author argues that churches have mostly responded to domestic violence by helping women in danger flee difficult living situations. While acknowledging that this important work must continue, she challenges Christian communities to do more to prevent violence. She proposes that churches can learn from the new discourse of 'just peacemaking' the strategic importance of building relationships. She applied the seven steps of just peacemaking (first articulated by Glen Stassen in 1992) to the intimate relationships in which most violence against women occurs and argues that 'marriage building' is a practical and necessary transforming initiative with potential to curb the epidemic of domestic violence. |
