Abstract :
This article investigates the literary work of J.M.H. Berckmans from the viewpoint of the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze, who correlates marginality and madness with an ethical literary creation that breaks through les mots d'ordre and representative thinking. Berckmans' Grauwzone is the marginal biotope used to record daily life. Its description is not mimetic, but expresses an existential fear and forms a critique of society and language. Berckmans' linguistic experiments increasingly look like jazz-improvisations. Stylistically, his work evolves from bop (Bericht uit Klein Konstantinopel) to free jazz (Ontbijt in het vilbeluik; Slecht nieuws voor Doctor Paf de Pierennaaier, Pandemonium in de Grauwzone).
