Ce document constitue un récit ethnographique précieux sur la Turquie du parti unique et son environnement intellectuel. Ce tapuscrit de 24 pages permet enfin d’accompagner le turcologue au long de son voyage à Istanbul et de saisir in vivo les stratégies développées par ce dernier pour ne pas associer son nom et son autorité scientifique à la thèse des monogénistes turcs. En ce sens, il complète le corpus tiré par Hamit Bozarslan de la correspondance professionnelle de Jean Deny (Turcica 39, 2007). The available sources concerning the reception of the Sun-Language Theory are scarce, both for the Turkish academic community and for international scholars; this fact highlights the originality of the confidential report written by the Paris École des langues orientales Professor of Turkish Language Jean Deny to the attention of the university of Paris rector Sébastien Charléty. Such a document provides a valuable ethnographical narrative on Turkey at the time of the unique party and enlightens its intellectual environment. Last but not least, its 24 pages enable the reader to follow the French turcologist along his journey to Istanbul and to catch in vivo the strategies he employed in order to avoid associating his name and scientific authority with the Turkish monogenist thesis. It thus completes the corpus drawn from Jean Deny’s professional correspondence by Hamit Bozarslan (Turcica 39, 2007). |
