L’importance que lui accordent les théories sociale, éthique ou politique contemporaines est le signe d’une situation inédite, dont il revient au théologien de prendre la mesure. Qu’est-ce que l’intelligence de la foi peut, en ce lieu si contemporain, recevoir et donner? Le présent essai se propose, dans une première étape, de présenter à grands traits les analyses convergentes sur l’entrée dans l’ère de l’identité, qui coïncide avec l’ère de l’individu émietté et des sociétés fragmentées, soumises à un processus d’accélération inédit. Dans une deuxième étape, on s’interrogera sur le mode paradoxal selon lequel l’Évangile envisage d’accomplir la promesse d’être soi: une identité en suspens, à conjuguer au régime présent d’existence. Entre construction et subversion d’identité, le christianisme a développé une tradition de pensée qu’il revient à la théologie d’acclimater à l’ère de l’identité. Habiter le site de l’identité suppose l’invention d’un chemin concret où soit vécue la grâce d’être soi. The theme of identity has invited itself into the debates of collective conscience. The importance which current social, ethical and political theories accord it is the sign of an unprecedented situation and it is up to the theologian to evaluate it. What can the intelligence of faith give and take in this so contemporary a locus? This article wishes, in the first stage, to present an overview of the convergent analyses concerning the entry into the era of identity, which coincides with the era of the eroded individual and fragmented societies subject to an unprecedented acceleration. In a second stage, the article asks questions about the paradoxical mode according to which the Gospel envisages how to accomplish the promise of being oneself, i.e. an identity in abeyance to be combined with the current mode of existence. Between construction and subversion of identity, Christianity has developed a tradition of thought which theology has to acclimatize to the era of identity. Living in the locus of identity supposes the invention of a concrete path in which to live the grace of being oneself. |
