Simmel et Valéry ont explicitement thématisé et anticipé les problèmes que pose l’évolution neurasthénique de la sensibilité moderne en rapport avec la culture du jugement esthétique. Cet article tente de montrer comment et en quel sens leurs réflexions critiques constituent un plaidoyer pour une conception esthétique prônant l’intégration réfléchie de l’apport de la sensibilité et de l’intelligence discursive à l’horizon de la vie individuelle. Aesthetic judgement, described by Kant as a power of discernment and of differentiation, is jeopardized in the modern world by the evolution of the social forms derived from advanced industrial society. Simmel and Valéry have explicitly dealt with and anticipated the problems raised by the depressed evolution of modern sensibility in connection with the culture of the aesthetic judgement. This article attempts to show how and in what sense their critical reflections constitute a plea for an aesthetic conception promoting the reflected integration of the contribution of sensibility and of discursive intelligence to the horizon of individual life. |
