Abstract :
Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī, who had reached the peak of his scholarly career at the turn of the 8th/14th century, was in close contact with numerous scholars, colleagues as well as students, yet it is not always clear who among them had in fact formally studied with him. Reliable documentation indicating who had formally studied with Quṭb al-D īn are the ijāzas he had issued. In this study, six certificates, dating from Ramaḍān 696/July 1297 to Rabī' II 708/mid October 1308, are introduced and edited. They provide information about seven scholars who had studied with Quṭb al-D īn al-Shīrāzī during this period, viz. Tāj al-Dīn Maḥmūd b. al-Sharīf al-Kirmānī, 'Ubayd Allāh b. Muḥammad al-Farghānī al-'Ibrī, Jalāl al-Dīn Khalīl b. Yuwāghilī b. Ismā'īl al-Rūmī, Najm al-Dīn Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr al-Tabrīzī, Najm al-Dīn 'Abd al-Raḥīm b. 'Abd al-Raḥmān b. Naṣr b. al-Shaḥḥām al-Mawṣilī, Najm al-Dīn Abu l-Futūḥ Abū Bakr b. 'Abd al-Wahhāb al-Dahistānī and Ẓahīr al-Dīn 'Alī b. Āmir b. 'Alī al-'Askarī. Moreover, these documents also provide a picture of Quṭb al-Dīn’s intellectual background, which consisted of the following cornerstones: Philosophy, ḥadīth, medicine, rhetorics, and Ṣufī tradition.
