The Research Project “Welfare and Religion in a European Perspective” documents how several big church traditions in Europe react to this situation on the local level. The social activity of the churches is closely related to their basic theological self-understanding, but it is also highly influenced by attitudes related to gender and family. The author argues that the ambiguous position of the churches in these issues risk to threaten the credibility of the churches as agents of welfare, not least from a gender perspective. Pour un certain nombre de raisons, les États européens ayant un système de sécurité sociale sont confrontés à une crise commune en ce qui concerne les jeunes, les malades et les personnes âgées. Le Projet de Recherche «Sécurité sociale et Religion dans une Perspective Européenne» apporte des informations sur la façon dont plusieurs grandes traditions ecclésiales d’Europe font face à cette situation à un niveau local. L’action sociale des Eglises est fondée sur leurs conceptions théologiques particulières, mais elle est aussi fortement influencée par les comportements envers le genre et la famille. L’auteure affirme que la position ambiguë des Églises sur ces questions risque de mettre en danger la crédibilité de leur engagement social. |
