Le département de kurde à l'université de Bagdad continue à accueillir et à former des élèves depuis 1959; en 1970 le kurde est reconnu officiellement et son enseignement généralisé dans la région kurde. Mais entre 1974-1991, une politique d'arabisation à outrance touche toutes les activités concernant la langue kurde. La langue réapparaît officiellement dès 1991, pour être enfin reconnue à la faveur de la Constitution de 2005 comme une langue officielle du pays au même titre que l'arabe. Since the Kurdish language was introduced to the school curriculum for the first time in Iraqi Kurdistan in 1919, its evolution has sometimes been abrupt and spasmodic but at most times, the change was slow. The Kurdish language Department at Baghdad University was opened in 1959 anc continues to receive students and providing tuition to-date. In 1970, the Iraqi government approved for the Kurdish language to be taught in the Kurdish regions in Iraq. The situation was reversed during 1974-1991, when the government imposed a strong policy to 'Arabicize' the Kurds thus severely limiting the use of the language. It is only since 1991 that the Kurdish language has been able to flourish again and, in the Constitution of 2005, received the status of an official language in Iraq, next to the Arabic. |
