Abstract :

From the contents of the MSL and BSL, one can see that the languages of the Indo-Iranian branch and of Central Asia have been always dealt with, albeit in various proportions. But the journal, being open to the study of all languages, has been superseded by journals that are devoted to specialized researches about languages of these areas or to the historical and comparative approach of Indo-European languages. One can broadly distinguish five periods in the history of the journal, corresponding to different phases in the study of materials taken from Indo-Iranian and Central Asiatic languages. In these successive phases, one may note the prominent role of several scholars that have given to the journal its distinctive character, and the resumption of specific topics by different authors in the course of time.
