Abstract :
Begun in 1996, the Students Exploring Marriage Initiative (SEMI) has enabled over 150 students in 13 schools and sixth form colleges in 4 areas of the country to learn about the realities of marriage in today’s society. They have carried out open ended dialogues with married couples in Workshops held weekly, normally out of school hours. The couples all believe themselves to be in Christian marriage: this has provided a focus for the exploration of marriage as a social institution and enabled couples to be found in sufficient numbers. Over 100 students have written articles about their findings, as if replying to the question “Does Christian marriage matter in our society today?” put to them by a friend of the same age.
