Author(s): CHEVEREAU, Pierre-Marie

This repertory of the officering of the armed forces in the Middle Kingdom shows a few changes compared with that of the Old Kingdom. At the head of the army stands now the mr m' wr, 'generalissimo'. The number of mr i'3w, overseer of the Nubian auxiliary troops', is lowering. Some new titles, typical of this period, take a prominent place in the document: 3tw '3 n niwt, 'chief of the urban regiment'; ḫrp skw, 'commanding officer of the troops'; sḥd msw, 'lieutenant of the guard'.
