Abstract :
Hā'ir Beg is well known as a Mameluke renegade, secret counsellor of SelÄ«m I before and during the Ottoman conquest of the Mameluke Empire, and who was finally appointed as the first Governor General of Ottoman Egypt (1517-1522). We have discovered in the archives of the Topkapi Sarayi Museum in Istanbul twelve original documents in Turkish and in Arabic - most of them unknown until now - issued by or related to him when he was still the Mameluke nā'ib of Aleppo (1506-1516), and addressed to the Sublime Porte or to the Ottoman Sultan. This documentation, published here, brings useful information about the evolution of the Ottoman-Mameluke relations in general and of the nā'ib himself in particular.
